A silicone coated fiberglass welding blanket uses a woven fiberglass fabric as its base material, coated on both sides with a silicone rubber compound. The fiberglass provides the high-temperature resistance and flame protection while the silicone coating adds abrasion resistance, flexibility, electrical insulation, and chemical resistance that uncoated fiberglass cannot provide.
Red Spark silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets have a dual temperature rating — the silicone coating layer is rated to 500°F and the fiberglass base is rated to 1,000°F. For applications exceeding 500°F where the silicone coating would degrade, the fiberglass base continues to provide protection up to 1,000°F
Mil-Y-1140C is a U.S. military specification for silicone rubber coated fiberglass yarn and fabric used in high-temperature insulation and protection applications. Red Spark blankets meeting this specification are manufactured to the quality and performance standards required for military and defense contractor applications, in addition to standard commercial industrial use.
No — Red Spark silicone coated fiberglass welding blankets are not recommended for stress relief applications. For stress relief heat treating applications, our White Spark silica fabric welding blankets are the appropriate choice, offering continuous 1,800°F service temperature with the thermal stability required for stress relief procedures.
