Soundproof Blankets & Acoustic Blankets for Lowering Your Noise Floor

Sound Shield™ soundproof blankets and acoustic blankets are used in industrial and commercial environments where sound needs to be absorbed and reverberations and echoing stopped. These acoustical blankets with grommets are made from 1″, 2″, or 4″ sound absorbing fiberglass based materials — ideal for factories, warehouses, auditoriums, sound booths, and gymnasiums.

For increased noise blocking in addition to sound absorption, see our industrial noise control solutions or our industrial sound curtains which include mass loaded vinyl plus quilted fiberglass for complete sound barrier systems. These soundproof blankets can also help prevent noise induced hearing loss in employees by supporting OSHA occupational noise exposure compliance.

Acoustic Sound Blankets vs Sound Curtains

Sound blankets are primarily used for wall-mounted sound absorption and equipment wrapping, while sound curtains are designed as flexible barriers or enclosures that can be opened, closed, or moved as needed. Choosing the right solution depends on whether the goal is absorption, containment, or space division.

Soundproof Blankets vs Acoustic Blankets

The terms “soundproof blankets,” “acoustic blankets,” and “sound barrier blankets” are often used interchangeably but describe slightly different functions in noise control:

  • Acoustic Blankets: Designed to absorb sound and reduce echo and reverberation
  • Sound Barrier Blankets: Include mass loaded vinyl to help block sound transmission
  • Soundproof Blankets: A common term used to describe both absorption and blocking solutions

In industrial applications the most effective solution often combines both sound absorption and sound blocking materials to achieve optimal noise reduction.

Additional Information:

Benefits of Sound Shield™ Soundproof Blankets

  • Stops poor acoustical conditions which create fatigue, stress, hearing damage, and even depression
  • Keeps communication and speech levels intelligible — making work tasks leaner and quicker
  • Can be used on walls, ceilings, or doorways to block noise — as low as 20% the cost of drywall construction
  • Can be custom designed to wrap piping, machinery, and encase noise emitting and vibrating equipment
  • Meets ASTM E-84 Class 1 flame resistance standards for use against or as interior walls

Soundproofing Blankets for Walls

Soundproof blankets for walls are commonly used in industrial and commercial environments to reduce noise levels and improve acoustics. Steel Guard acoustic blankets attach to walls through grommets punched on the top and sides. The soundproof blankets are best attached to walls with a screw anchor and washer — though other methods are possible. Custom design industrial acoustic blankets can include velcro, straps, buckles, and extra grommets as needed.

Wall mounted acoustic blankets are widely used in manufacturing plants, warehouses, mechanical rooms, and other environments where sound reflects off hard surfaces and contributes to high ambient noise levels.

A sound blanket is a ceiling or wall covering that is often used in industrial, commercial, residential or  construction sites for noise control. Sound blankets may be referred to by other names, including soundproofing blankets, noise blankets, industrial sound curtains, or acoustic wall blankets.

Soundproof blankets are extremely used as partition walls or enclosures in manufacturing spaces with machinery, they can also be used in homes or other settings to block sound through doors and windows. Not all sound blankets are used for blocking sound and preventing noise from transferring outside of a space. Some primarily absorb sound to reduce noise and echo. The Amount of Noise Blocked Depends on the Variety of Substrates Used.

Soundproof Blankets are made of a 1 inch or 2 inch Fiberglass Batting quilted with a Vinyl Coated Fiberglass Cloth.

The Purpose of the Sound Proof Blankets is to Absorb Sound Waves.

If you are looking to Block more Sound Waves a Sound Attenuation Curtain is needed, which adds Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) in addition to the Quilted Fiberglass Substrate.

The very best way is to do Audiometric Sound Testing to find out the Loudness in Decibals (Db) for the Frequency in Hertz (Hz) of the Sound Spectrum. Along with our Sound Transmission Class (STC) Ratings this will determine what Sound Blanket or Sound Curtain works best.

If you can not do a sound test with a meter, It is useful to go by the chart below to determine what Hertz (hz) are making the most decibels. For Louder Decibels below 500 hz, Mass Loaded Vinyl is usually needed.

Iron Clad Warranty

No. Sound Proof Blankets are excellent for absorbing A/C noise. Creating a barrier around Fencing is a great way to dramatically lower the noise emitting from the air conditioner. As long as the Sound Blankets are not directing over the Fan and the A/C has a couple of feet to “breathe” they are a perfect solution.

There are several ways to mount your sound blankets

  1. Grommets – Use a Bolts and Washers to Mount the Soundproof Blankets to the Wall Fence Desired.
  2. Velcro – Multiple Acoustic Blankets can be Modularly attached together. In addition, Adhesive Velcro can be attached on the Wall, or Fence, and then then the Other Velcro can be Adhered to the Sound Blanket, negating the need for screws or bolts.
  3. Frame – Our Weld-Shield Frame Mounts to Sound Curtains and Blankets by Looping Industrial Zip Ties Through the Grommets.
  4. Track System – For Large Systems, Usually with MLV the Sound Blankets hang from Nylon or Steel Roller, with 6 different Mounting Options.

No. These Industrial Sound Blankets are Geared to much Higher Sound Absorption & Blocking. The short .Moving Blankets will give a small amount of sound attenuation but are not geared to block sound for most applications. They do not have specifically designed materials like these sound blankets do.
