Lithium-ion batteries are now a standing fire risk in nearly every industrial building — in forklift charging bays, in palletized inventory, in the tools and e-mobility devices staged on the floor, and in the vehicles parked outside. A cell in thermal runaway generates its own oxygen, resists conventional extinguishing agents, releases toxic gas, and can reignite hours after the visible flames stop. Containment has become the practical answer, and insurers and fire officials increasingly expect it to be on hand.

Steel Guard Safety manufactures the containment products for that problem — A variety of lithium battery fire protection including – lithium battery fire blankets, EV and car fire blankets, forklift and pallet truck blankets, and fireproof pallet covers. Every one is cut and sewn in our 17,000 square-foot South Holland, Illinois plant from Draft-Tex™ fabric, built on Newtex Z-Block® silicone-coated fiberglass rated 1,800°F (982°C) continuous, and constructed to the design and test parameters of DIN SPEC 91489:2024-11 — the European technical specification for lithium-ion fire blankets. We are a fourth-generation American manufacturer with 100 years of family heritage in industrial textiles, and we build to order in any size.

Why Specify a U.S. Manufacturer

Any size, built to order. Most of this market sells fixed imported sizes. We are a fabricator first — if your equipment, pallet, or vehicle doesn’t match a standard size, we build to your dimensions using the same construction and materials. Telehandlers, cage and stillage covers, oversized loads, non-standard charging enclosures: all routine work here.

Lead times measured in weeks, not quarters. Imported fire blankets are stocked in limited quantities in the United States, and backorders on popular sizes have been running as long as three months. Because we manufacture domestically, stock sizes ship in days and production runs — including fleet and distributor quantities — are produced in two to three weeks. There is no container, no customs, and no queue.

Honest, comparable temperature data. This category is full of headline “peak” temperatures that a fabric survives for seconds. We publish two numbers on every product: the continuous working rating and the thermal test basis — benchmarked to the DIN SPEC 91489 cycle of direct flame to 1,832°F (1,000°C) for 23 minutes. When you evaluate blankets from any supplier, ask for both.

Built for reuse. A large share of the blankets sold in the U.S. are single-use drapes intended to be discarded after one deployment. Ours are heavy-duty reusable construction — deployed in drills, trained on, inspected, cleaned, and returned to service throughout their life, and retired only after exposure to an actual fire.

Documentation that survives an audit. Every unit is serialized and ships with a product identification record, deployment card, safety information, and inspection log. Distributors and specifiers get the paper trail their customers’ insurers and fire marshals ask for.

Distributor, OEM, and Private Label Programs

Steel Guard Safety has sold through distribution for four generations. We support stocking distributors, safety and industrial supply houses, fire equipment dealers, and material handling dealers with volume pricing, drop shipping, product literature, and application support. Because we manufacture in-house, we also offer private label and OEM programs — your branding, your size range, your packaging — which no importer or reseller in this category can provide.
